June Rambles — I AM AI Release Day & StokerCon

Today is the official release day of I AM AI, and I’m so excited to be sharing this smol novelette with y’all!! When I first wrote this in November 2022, I didn’t think that the current landscape of things would have evolved into what it has upon its release… But, I do hope you all find comfort in the story, despite its dystopian setting that seems to mirror our own more and more.

Thank you all as always for always supporting me and my work! 🥺🤍

I’ll have a limited number of signed copies for sale in my online shop if anyone might be keen to grab one—battery stickers and a battery pin will be included! I would like to entice fellow Canadians to order from Little Ghosts Books once they become available online as I’ll be heading in to sign stock and also for my in-person launch on July 8th @ 3-5PM EST. If y’all are around, please do drop by and say hi! (And for those out of the country, do tune in for my online launch with Space Cowboy Books on July 18th @ 9PM EST)

STOKERCON

Last year, I’d attended StokerCon online, but this year, I got to attend in person—along with my spouse! We (just my spouse really 😭) drove overnight on our way there from about 12AM to 7AM (the ride back was significantly smoother when there wasn’t the worry about passing out from sleep deprivation heh…)

I’d gotten to meet so many friends I’ve made through social media for the first time, and also ended up missing a bunch of people in the hustle and bustle, but it was absolutely fantastic finally speaking in person to fellow writers and readers!

The mass signing was wild, but I’m so grateful to everyone who stopped by my table to chat and grab my smol books. Truly, I wouldn’t be here without all of y’all, and for that I will appreciate y’all forever!

I’ve already grabbed my ticket for StokerCon in San Diego next year—unfortunately my spouse will not be coming along this time around because the amount of peopling (aka social interaction) at the con completely gassed him out 😂. But I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again, to say hello to those I didn’t catch, and mayhaps—surely—make new friends along the way. 🤍

ICYMI!

My Nebula nominated short story “Give Me English” will be included in the first Year’s Best Canadian Fantasy and Science Fiction, and there is a Kickstarter running at the moment if anyone is keen to check it out and support some Canadian writers!

My next column piece on PSYCHOPOMP is out as well if anyone is contemplating on watching the new Netflix animated series of Junji Ito’s work:

I’m a guest judge this month with Elegant Lit for their new writers contest! If anyone needs financial assistance, we’re happy to be offering 10 free entries—do email or reach out to me on social media for more info!

Thank you as always for reading and supporting! Do hold onto your flashlights—and don’t wander too far into the dark… 👻
