January Newsletter — Chaos Trifecta, Spanish Rights, Locus & Hugo Recommended Lists, & Unquiet Spirits

I’d meant to load this onto my website a few days after the newsletter went out, but… of course time is always escaping me, so here it is! The February newsletter just went out and will be live on this blog in a few days. If you haven’t yet subscribed—JOIN THE CHAIOS. 🤍

I’m officially on submission now with my second novella (a gothic, dark fantasy, steampunk mash-up that will eventually also branch into cyberpunk). I’ve put together my second story collection and will likely send that over to my agents soon. As for progress on the first novel, that hasn’t been going as quickly as I’d like with there being a lot of writing related planning and work leading up to the launch of  Linghun  among other projects, but I’m still hoping that I can finish most of it by the end of February—fingers crossed!

As for short story publications, you can now  read  AND  listen  to “A Hand to Hold, a Mouth to Speak” published in The Maul Magazine.

I also have new column titled  CHAOS TRIFECTA  that comes out monthly with  PSYCHOPOMP . You can read the first instalment now on their website and sign up for their newsletter to receive it in your inbox every month!

Other exciting news:

Linghun ‘s Spanish Rights has been sold to  Dilatando Mentes Editorial  and the translated novella will be forthcoming in Spain in 2024.

Linghun  has also been included in Book Riot’s “ 12 SFF & Horror Debuts to Watch For in 2023 ” among novels from the 5 big publishers!

With the awards season here, I’ve been made aware that “Give Me English” has been mentioned in the  Locus Recommended Reading List  as well as Nerds of a Feather’s  Hugo Award Nomination List ! I feel so extremely honoured and fortunate, especially because this story is also my very first SFWA pro sale and publication!

On a side note, I’m also eligible for the  Astounding Award for Best New Writer ! It’ll be a long shot perhaps but one can hope to be nominated!

For upcoming news:

On February 14th,  Unquiet Spirits: Essays by Asian Women in Horror  will be launching! It’s an collection filled with heart wrenching personal essays that touch on duty, family, motherhood, daughterhood, among others, and of course, spirits and ghosts. I, too, have an essay in this collection, and it’s probably one of the most personal pieces I’ve written so far.

The first anthology I’ll be editing, along with my co-editor Christi Nogle, is titled  Wilted Pages: An Anthology of Dark Academia  and the submissions guidelines are now up! Our Kickstarter will run in March, along with the open submissions period, so get those stories ready!
